The Rev. Richard W. Berg – 84 (Sheboygan, WI) After a three-year courageous battle with cancer Richard was called home to be with Jesus on December 16, 2018. Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Richard was given life by his creator and was born on January 10, 1934 the child of Rev. Alvin and Violet (Egide) Berg. Richard attended Madison Lutheran Elementary School and Madison East High School. Richard graduated from Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, IL in 1955 with a B.A. He also earned a M.Ed. from Concordia, River Forest in 1967. On July 17, 1955 he was united in marriage to Carole J. Schroeder. They were blessed with the gift of four children: Richard, Elizabeth, Karl, and John. Richard served for twenty-five years as a teacher, church musician, and principal in The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. He served St. John Lutheran, Defiance, Ohio; Bethlehem Lutheran, Euclid, Ohio; St. Paul Lutheran, Oconomowoc, WI; St. Paul Lutheran, Round Lake, IL; Good Shepherd Lutheran, Elgin, IL. In the fall of 1978 Richard began his study for the office of Pastor of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN and was ordained in 1982. Richard served St. Matthew Lutheran, Rockford, IL and Redeemer Lutheran, Rockford, IL for 35 years. God blessed Richard with a holy death and took him home on December 16, 2018 to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.
Preceding Richard in death are his mother and father, brother Joel and sister Connie, and his two sons; Dr. Richard W. Berg and Karl J. Berg.
Richard is survived by his faithful wife Carole and children Elizabeth Hook (Raymond), Rev. John (Kathleen) Berg, and daughter-in-law Dr. Joan Bercoon. He is also survived by his grandchildren Aubrey (Ryan) Pollesch; Alicia Hook; Nathan and Evan Berg; Mary (Aaron) Viets; Bethany, Jacob, Karl, Matthew, and Rebekah Berg; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 824 Wisconsin Ave. Sheboygan, WI on Thursday, December 20th from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor(s) John M. Berg and Timothy J. Mech presiding. Internment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be given to Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, WI, or Sharon S. Richardson Hospice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sharon S. Richardson, Dr. Kumar and staff, Dr. Brian Schmitt and all of the pastors that visited him.
