Walter Fabian Hildebrand, 99, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Pine Haven Christian Communities in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin.
Walter was born on April 2, 1923, to Walter Sr. and Louise (Fabian) Hildebrand in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1941.
Following graduation, Walter was briefly employed at Amira Corporation in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
After a few years, at 21 years of age, Walter received his official “greeting” from the Selective Service, and would commence a 3-year tour in the United States Army. Pfc. Hildebrand served courageously and honorably in the European Theatre during World War II under the command of General George Patton.
Upon his safe return, Walter began his second stint at Amira Corporation where he was a faithful employee for 42 years.
On June 25, 1948, Walter married Marian Brasser of Oostburg, Wisconsin. Together, they had two children, Neil and Jill. The two of them, along with family, recently celebrated 74 years of wedded bliss!
In 1983, Walter retired, and could finally devote more time to the simple pleasures in life that really made him happy…grandchildren, travel, woodworking, hunting, fishing, and scenic walks through Kohler Andre State Park. Walter’s favorite vacation destination was an extended “road trip” to Alaska in 1989.
In 2013, Walter, along with his son, Neil, experienced a thrill of a lifetime. They were honored to be able to be a part of the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. This was truly a life changing trip, and an experience the two would never forget.
Like many of us, family was most important to Walter. He enjoyed attending the many activities and events of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Walter was a proud fan!
Throughout the years, Walter was a devoted charter member of Bethany Reformed Church, as well as a loyal member of the Great Lakes Fishing Association and the “99” Club of Sheboygan.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Marian; their children Neil (Deette) Hildebrand, Sheboygan, Jill (Paul) Brinkman, Howards Grove; three grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda) Hildebrand, Kayla (Joseph) Widder, and Ethan Brinkman; four great grandchildren, Hanna and Tred Hildebrand, Lucas and Isaac Widder; brother-in-law Wayne (Lynn) Brasser, and nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr., and Louise; his father and mother-in-law Henry and Jennie Brasser; stepmother Mary (Radtke) Hildebrand, sister-in-law Audrey Brasser, sister-in-law Lillian Wissink, and brother-in-law Douglas Wissink.
Family and friends may gather at Bethany Reformed Church, 1315 Washington Ave. in Sheboygan on Saturday December 17, 2022, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Steve Bakker will officiate. Following the funeral service VFW Post #9156 will conduct military honors. Memorials in Walter’s name may be directed to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Online condolences maybe expressed at www.reinboldfh.com
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Pine Haven Christian Home and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the wonderful care given to Walter.

Mary

Dear Marian, Neil, Jill, and family, My deepest sympathy in the death of Walter. My Stepdad, Donald Fabian, was his cousin. I know that even into retirement Walter and Marian visited with my Mom, Cookie and Donnie up in Menominee. You are all so fortunate to have had Walter to the age of 99. Tonight when I talk to Mom I will tell her of Walter’s death. I am sure that she extends her sympathy as well. May God bring you all comfort. Mary Sommersberger
