Walter J. “Wally” Scharrer

Walter J. (Wally) Scharrer, age 90, of Sheboygan, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, at the Shores of Sheboygan Assisted Living. Wally was born in Sheboygan on May 9, 1931, to the late Joseph and Theresia (Weiss) Scharrer, immigrants from Austria.

Wally attended St. Dominic Elementary and Sheboygan North High School, class of 1949. He served in Korea during the Korean War 1952-53 as a member of the United States Army. On June 23, 1956, he married Patricia C. Binversie at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in School Hill, WI. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2013.

Wally worked at Vollrath Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1994 as a tool design draftsman. He was a member of the Vollrath Quarter Century Club. Wally was a life member of St. Dominic Parish and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9156. He enjoyed watching sports, mainly football, college basketball, baseball, golf, and Track & Field. He was an avid reader and was a frequent visitor of the Mead Public Library. Wally enjoyed taking long walks into his 80’s.

Wally is survived by three sons, two daughters, Stephen (Ann) Scharrer, Sandra (Larry) Senkbeil, Barbara (Richard) Peterson, Kurt (Amy) Scharrer, Nick (Tammy) Scharrer, Daughter-in-law Vicki Scharrer, 16 grandchildren who he was so proud of, Stacy (Joey) Van Caster, Ryan (Melissa) Senkbeil, Theresa (Erik) Rundquist, Jacqueline (Rob) Petrie, Angela Scharrer and Tim Scharrer, Matt (Rebecca) Nykiel, Emily Peterson (Fiancé John), Nathan (Amber) Peterson, Ashley (Greg) Sehring, Samantha, Benjamin Scharrer, Sydney, Lucas and Madalyn Scharrer, 11 great grandchildren, Sophia and Aubrey Van Caster, Liliana and Greyson Senkbeil, Charlie Petrie, Zoë Sehring, Mason and Lucas Peterson, Sophia Dela Cruz, Cooper and Tucker Nykiel. He was further survived by his brothers, Herb Scharrer of Sheboygan, and John (Barbara) Scharrer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, In-laws Agnes Wiltzius, Cecilia Smolic, Dominic Binversie, and Betty (Ken) Biese. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. Wally was preceded by his wife, a son, Thomas Scharrer and a grandson, Matthew Scharrer.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st Street, Sheboygan with Father Norberto Sandoval officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 12:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with VFW Post 9156 providing full military honors.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Shores of Sheboygan Assisted Living and to St. Croix Hospice for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Walter’s name.

Our love, prayers, and condolences to the family. Uncle Wally will be remembered and missed. We are so saddened to hear of his passing. We loved spending time with him and his family on our visits to the farm. It was always a good time. May his soul Rest In Peace.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of my uncle Wally! I always looked forward to seeing him and aunt Pat when we would visit Grandpa and Grandma's farm. The family gatherings,on Sundays, were always great fun and Wally was a fun guy to be around. I will miss him! All of his family have my love, condolences and prayers!

My condolences to all family members, relatives and friends on the loss of Wally. He will be missed, however you can celebrate the happy days of his life. My days at The Vollrath Company go back to 1964-1969 working for Walter Platkus. Those were good memories shared with Walter Kohler, Terry Kohler, Paul Rohling, Carl Vollrath and so many others.
